PRC Board Member Dakay leads oath of new civil engineers

Dr. Pericles P. Dakay, member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Civil Engineering, administered the oath of professionals of the new civil engineers during the Mass Oathtaking Ceremony of New Civil Engineers and Induction of New PICE members at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City.

Dr. Pericles P. Dakay delivers his message of wisdom and inspiration to the new civil engineers.

“Consistently believe in the physical course of nature. Our profession is diverse,” he opened the various perspectives of the careers new civil engineers may pursue and reminded them of the various roles a civil engineer can do.

Currently engaged with the construction of power plants, ports, malls, and high-rise commercial and mixed-use developments, Dr. Dakay is Chairperson of the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) and a Board Member of the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP), an attached agency for the Department of Trade and Industry specializing in the regulation and development of the country’s construction industry.

Citing several events of the current times, including the pandemic and climate change, the Cebuano engineer called for each of the new engineers’ individual effort in facing the challenges requiring their expertise.

“We need to prepare for the challenges that is waiting; All 185,000 of us, especially for you, the new civil engineers,” he reiterated.

A consistent honor student, Dr. Dakay was an Albert Einstein Awardee during his high school in Cebu City National Science High School and continued finishing his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree with Latin honors from the University of San Carlos.

He also completed his Master of Science in Civil Engineering major in Structural Engineering and Doctor of Engineering Management from the University of Missouri-Rolla in the United States.

Dr. Dakay asked the new civil engineers if they are up for the challenge of the profession.

Coupled with his academic achievements, he completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Graduate Engineering Research Center and was appointed as Assistant Professor. Among his assignments included in the development of the Union Electric Callaway Nuclear Plant and the United States Military Aviation Training Command.

A total of 191 new civil engineers took their oath coming from various schools in the region and beyond: Aklan State University, Capiz State University, Central Philippine University, Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, Garcia College of Technology, Northern Iloilo State University, Palawan State University, St. Anthony’s College – Antique, University of Antique, University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, University of San Agustin, and Western Institute of Technology.

 The said activity was organized by the PICE Iloilo Chapter and the Professional Regulation Commission Regional Office VI.
