
The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) Iloilo Chapter spearheaded a coordination meeting with the City Government of Iloilo to advance the nationwide flood-mitigation initiative “Oplan: Kontra Baha.”
The gathering took place at the Office of the Building Official in the New Multi-Purpose Building, bringing together technical experts and city officials.
Mayor Raisa S. Treñas was formally invited alongside representatives from the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), Traffic and Transportation Management Office (TTMO), and Office of Facilities Conservation (OFC).
OCENR was tasked to identify priority creeks and designate safe disposal sites for dredged materials; TTMO was assigned to manage traffic flow and ensure public safety during the deployment of heavy equipment; OFC was designated to provide technical coordination on drainage systems and major waterways.
PICE Iloilo Chapter President Engr. Mavi J. Gustilo underscored the importance of unified action, stressing that collaboration is key to building a flood-resilient Iloilo City.
The initiative highlights the growing role of professional engineers in shaping disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
This engagement reflects Iloilo City’s commitment to proactive solutions, ensuring communities are better protected against perennial flooding.
